Updated on

We have done our research and come up with what I think is the best under-bed treadmill plus another 4 compact treadmill machines that should suit most people’s needs who want to keep running indoors.

We think of treadmills as big bulky machines. Wouldn’t it be nice to get one with all the power and functionality of a gym model but be able to slide it under the bed or couch just as the sweat is leaving the brow.

The Best Under Bed Treadmills in 2024

You can burn 267 calories while walking at moderate speed and even more calories while running for one hour. And getting a treadmill will help you achieve your fitness and weight loss goals.

Having limited workout space is a common problem in modern condos. But a compact treadmill will solve your problems, especially if you plan to work out regularly.

There are several small treadmills for those who want to achieve their weight loss or fitness goals, and none of them is short on features. They’re lightweight and portable, so you can easily set up your treadmill wherever and whenever you like.

If you’re looking for a reliable yet compact treadmill that folds flat enough to be stored under a bed or sofa, you’ve come to the right place. I’m not just talking about treadmills that fold up here.

Steve and I, with 25 years of gym and home-based equipment, have researched the market. We have found several options that you can consider if you want to find the best under desk treadmill that won’t disappoint. Check out our reviews of our top picks.

3G Cardio 80i Fold Flat Incline Treadmill – Best Overall

Can a compact treadmill that folds flat support an overweight person? Yep, this treadmill will definitely work for you as it’s designed to support a maximum weight of 325 pounds.

Despite being heavier than other models, this one folds up and flat and gives you 2 modes of storage. Under the bed folded flat or folded and left upright.

When folded flat, this treadmill has a height of 9.75 inches.

The 3G Cardio 80i can fit under many sofas and beds but it’s a relatively high clearance needed. So check that the under-bed clearance is sufficient.

With a 3 HP motor, this treadmill will cover all your workout needs, as you can adjust the speed from 0.5 to 11 mph, covering the full gamut of walking, jogging, and running.

Amazingly this treadmill has an incline function that goes from 0 to 15%. Many people like this option which simulates, more realistically the normal undulations of outdoor surfaces.

We found the heavy-duty Ortho Flex (whatever that is) suspension, to provide stability on contact whilst running that will have less stress on the joints. Something other cheaper flat-folding treadmills may lack. So there is little belt vibration or twisting.

This treadmill offers 8 built-in workout programs, and you can create 4 custom profiles, which makes it an excellent choice for couples and families.

Moreover, it allows you to keep track of your vitals, and you can connect it to your phone or tablet and enjoy your favorite music or TV, with the aid of built-in speakers. There is no inbuilt classes or subscriptions – which for many is a bonus.

I don’t mind at all as you can easily connect to an app of your choice on your smart device.

However, there are 8 standard programs like warm-up and hill routines and you can easily use manual mode or create your bespoke workout.

Another cool feature, which some others have on our list is when the arms and display are folded it can be used as an under desk standing or walking treadmill.

The only catch is that this treadmill is more expensive than other models. However, if you’re looking for a reliable and versatile option that supports more weight, this will definitely be the one.

I had to mention this one reviewer which I couldn’t agree more with…”I’m shocked that this treadmill is barely mentioned by review sites. For people like us living in a small apartment, this is by leaps and bounds the best available treadmill.

Sunny Health & Fitness ASUNA Premium Slim Folding Treadmill

Having limited space shouldn’t stop you from working out, and this foldable and solid well-built treadmill is here to prove it. It measures 64 inches long when folded, so it occupies little space. It has a weight capacity of 220 pounds.

Compact treadmills like these under-bed machines have come a long way in features and quality.

It was only the larger more expensive treadmills that seemed to be able to design good shock-absorbing decks but working out on this treadmill should be easy on the joints.

It also comes with a floor stabilizer to keep it in place. Nice touch. Although it might still be a good idea to get a treadmill mat.

Thanks to the 4-window display, you can monitor your progress. The folding mechanism is easy to use with a special tool kept at one end of the treadmill – don’t lose it!

The treadmill has a media port and built-in speakers – the sound is good enough, let’s say. And the device holder is a good size.

You can use this treadmill for walking and jogging as the 2.5-HP motor can change the speed from 0.6 to 8 mph. At higher speeds, we found it sometimes might skip or slightly stop, throwing you off your jogging rhythm.  But I’ve had the same thing happen on gym-quality treadmills so it could be a one-off.

This machine is more under-bed than under-desk. As folded the controls are in the arm so you can’t adjust the speed so if you’re after a 2-in-1 sort of machine check the previous options.

It features a 2.25 HP powerful yet quiet motor and supports a weight capacity of 265 pounds.

The belt is made of 5 layers to absorb shock and seems to have a nice non-slip quality. The shock absorption feels good and should reduce the impact on the back and joints.

You can easily connect your phone and enjoy your favorite music, thanks to the high-performance speakers. It also comes with a remote control holder.

It features a good LED digital display that shows information about the time, speed, distance, and calories burnt. You can use the remote control to adjust the treadmill speed.

The treadmill comes with built-in wheels and is more portable than other options and at 69.5lbs, is light. It works right out of the box but look after the remote control because you can’t control the speed from the unit itself.

REDLIRO Under Desk Treadmill 2 in 1 Walking Machine

Whether you want to walk slowly or run fast, this treadmill will work for you. It looks a bit basic and the mechanism is simple but it works well as another 2-in-1 compact under-bed, under-desk treadmill.

Because of its’ simple design, it lacks arms which is a useful safety feature on other running/walking machines.

You can adjust the speed and elevation, reaching a maximum speed limit of 7.5 mph, thanks to the 2.25 HP motor. That’s with it unfolded. As a folding walking machine, the maximum speed is 4 mph.

The motor is quiet, and adjusting the speed is easy by touching the dashboard or remote control. There’s also a safety key for instant shutoff.

It was very light although appears to be made of a rugged alloy steel frame so it should last. The treadmill comes fully assembled.

It can support a maximum user weight of 220 pounds, and the folding design allows you to store it conveniently.

Very portable. You can easily move this treadmill around because it’s lightweight and comes with built-in wheels.

Although as an under desk walker it works well and safety isn’t so much an issue because of support from whatever desk is being used.

Who Should Get a Compact or Under Bed Treadmill?

An under-bed compact treadmill like these in our list will work for you in the following cases.

  • You’re not looking to train at 6 minute mile pace. Although…
  • …you do want something a little challenging.
  • You don’t have enough space to permanently set up a treadmill.
  • You want a treadmill that can be folded flat.
  • And in some cases you want the option to use as an under desk machine.

What to Look Out For When You’re Shopping the Best Under Bed Treadmill

If you’re confused about choosing the right under desk treadmill, here are some factors to take into consideration.

Overall Size

Take a look at the dimensions of the treadmill while it’s set up and folded – especially the height when folded. This will determine under whose bed or sofa it goes – maybe there isn’t enough clearance. Make sure that you have the right space available to set it up, so you can work out comfortably and safely. You’ll need a little buffer area around the treadmill’s footprint.

Unmotorized or manual treadmills are more likely to be a good deal smaller than the ones we have chosen but you can check out the best manual treadmills here.

Folding Mechanism

The folding mechanism should be easy, fast, and reliable. A tool-less folding mechanism is a great choice, and you should be able to do it quickly and safely for efficient storage. You don’t want to be struggling with the treadmill after a hard workout.

Maximum Speed

Are you looking for a treadmill that you can use for walking, jogging, running – all three? Check out the maximum speed limit because some treadmills can’t be fast enough for running.

Some people’s fast walk is another person’s jog which is someone’s run but you want the treadmill, compact or not to cover your top speed requirements.

Putting things in perspective. A treadmill with a maximum speed of 12 mph is the equivalent of 5 minute mile pace or a 2 hour 11 min marathon. That’s world-class-running quick.

The average walking pace is anywhere between 3 to 4 mph with the upper end being brisk and down towards 3 it’s more languid. Getting towards and past 5 mph it becomes a jog. So 0.5 mph is a bit of a crawl.

Weight Capacity

Do you like a treadmill but are worried about it breaking down? Ensure that the treadmill is built to support your weight, so it doesn’t break while using it.

Adjustability

Picking a treadmill that’s easy to adjust will be a big plus. Look for a reliable model with intuitive buttons that allow you to pick the desired speed or even incline if that’s a feature.

Several treadmills come with preset and saved programs to make your workout of the day more interesting and easy.

Extra Features

While you’re working out, you need a reliable screen that you can use to keep track of your progress. Pick a treadmill with a clear screen that shows information about your workout routine.

Some treadmills also feature Bluetooth connectivity and built-in speakers that allow you to enjoy your favorite music tracks while working out.

What Are the Benefits of Buying an Under Bed Treadmill?

A compact treadmill offers several advantages that aren’t accessible if you have a big standard one.

  • It’s tiny enough for small rooms.
  • You can sneak in a quick treadmill workout at your convenience.
  • Being foldable, you can easily put the treadmill in the closet, under the bed, or under the sofa.
  • If a 2-in-1 treadmill apart from being a compact treadmill you can use it whilst working at a desk.
  • The under desk treadmill is suitable for all ages – for the whole family. Just need to adhere to some safety issues with the old and the young.
  • You can use the treadmill in dual-purpose rooms, so you can work out while watching TV or doing whatever you like.
For larger treadmills with tv, screen entertainment and the works.

In Summary

Having limited space in your house shouldn’t stand between you and achieving your workout goals. After searching the market, we chose several compact, flat-folding, under-bed treadmills that work for those who want to work out in the comfort of their homes.

We’ve chosen the 3G Cardio 80i as our best under desk treadmill – especially if you’re a speedster with a maximum of 11 mph. It’s a great design. It supports users up to the weight of 325 pounds. It offers built-in and customizable workout plans, it’s well built with the features you would expect in a large non-folding treadmill.

But if you throw “value for money” well and truly in the mix then the Sunny Health Asuna 8730 treadmill is the best with great belt absorption which is of good size. Even so, it folds flat to just 5.25″. Good company, support and 5 year warranty on all their treadmills. They have more folding treadmill models with more specs. Big thumbs up.
